Metastasis in pregnancy

Question:
our niece was diagnosed with renal sarcoma, it started when she was pregant with her daughter, can her daughter have cancer since she had cancer during her pregancy. the cancer has metalisized to other organs already. do we have the baby tested, if so where, and what kind of test. thanks

Answer:

Only very rarely does cancer in pregnancy metastize to the baby. Detailed ultrasound of the fetus can help in diagnosis. A specialized perinatologist should be involved in the care of mother and baby.
