Irena Nulman, MD, B.Sc.
Alcohol and Drugs of Abuse Program
Dr. Nulman is a neurologist who specializes in the effects of psychotropic drugs (anticonvulsants, antidepressants and drugs of abuse) on the child's cognitive and behavioral development after exposure in utero. Currently, her main research interest is in the effect of prenatal alcohol exposure on the child's postnatal achievements and developing a diagnostic criteria for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. She also works in close association with the Children's Aid Societies, providing scientific information through clinical assessments of children in regards to prospective adoptions. She is an author and co-author of a number of ground-breaking publications on these topics.
