Question:
Is the drug zofran safe to use in pregnancy for vomiting?
Answer:
The numerous questions to our NVP Helpline and this NVP Forum about Zofran as a medication for NVP and HG, its frequent reported use (especially in the US), as well as the limited safety information on its use, have prompted Motherisk to conduct a safety study. Pregnant women taking Zofran are invited to call our toll-free Helpline at 1-800-436-8477 to take part in this study.
To date, three case reports have been published, with no adverse effects. One prospective study of 15 women also reported no difference in birth outcome.
